Cookie Policy

Last Updated: October 6, 2026

This policy lists the cookies Stock Locker sets, what each one holds, and how long it lasts. It is written from the code rather than from a template, so the names below are the names you will find in your browser.

The short version: cookies keep you signed in, and one more remembers whose referral link you followed. We run no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics that follow you around other websites, which is why nothing here asks you to accept anything.

The cookies we set

__session, __client_uat, __clerk_db_jwt, clerk_active_context

Set by:
Clerk, our authentication provider
What it does:
Keeps you signed in and tells the server which account a request belongs to. Without these you cannot sign in at all. You may see each name twice, once with a short suffix, which is how Clerk separates its environments.
How long:
Session length, refreshed as you browse, and removed when you sign out.

tl_ref

Set by:
Stock Locker, when you follow a referral link
What it does:
Holds the referral code from the link you followed, so the account that referred you is recorded if you go on to create an account. It is read once, at sign-up, and is never used to build a profile of you.
How long:
30 days, or until you clear it. It is httpOnly, so no script on the page can read it.

Storage that is not a cookie

Your browser's sessionStorage holds one key, tl:session-resync. It records the moment the page last tried to repair a sign-in the server had not yet seen, so that repair cannot loop. It contains a timestamp and nothing else, it never leaves your browser, and closing the tab removes it.

An earlier version of the site kept keys named tl_via_leaderboard: followed by a trader's handle in localStorage, recording when you opened a trader's profile from the leaderboard. They are no longer used, and the site deletes any it finds the next time you open a trader's profile.

If you choose light or dark in the menu, that choice is kept in localStorage under sl-theme ("light" or "dark"). It never leaves your browser.

If you connect a wallet from a phone, WalletConnect's software keeps the keys for that connection in localStorage and IndexedDB, under names beginning wc@2 and @appkit. We close the connection as soon as your wallet has signed; clearing this site's data removes what is left.

Nothing else about you is kept in your browser's storage, and we set no tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts or advertising identifiers.

If you sign in with X or Google, or link a YouTube or TikTok account, you are sent to that provider's own site, which sets its own cookies under its own policy. Those are not set on stocklocker.com and are not listed here.

Our database provider sets no cookie of its own. Sign-in is handled entirely by Clerk, so no database session is ever opened in your browser and no sb-… cookie is created.

Why there is no cookie banner

Consent is required for cookies that are not necessary to provide a service you asked for. Everything above is either strictly necessary — signing in, carrying a database session — or the direct result of something you did: the referral cookie of following a referral link, the leaderboard note of opening a trader from the leaderboard. Each holds a code or a time and nothing more, and none is used to track you anywhere else. We ask for no consent because we set nothing that needs it.

If we ever add analytics or advertising cookies, this page will say so before they are set, and you will be asked first.

Removing them

Every browser can clear cookies for a single site: look for "Cookies and site data" in its settings, or open the padlock beside the address bar. Clearing ours signs you out and forgets any referral code or leaderboard note you were carrying. Nothing else about your account changes, and your calls are untouched.

Blocking cookies for stocklocker.com altogether stops you signing in, because the session has nowhere to live. Reading the site while signed out works with cookies blocked.

Changes and questions

If the cookies we set change, this page changes with them: it is meant to be the list, not a summary of one.
